The Plague of the 20-something Professional...

I see it often. Another 20-something professional not quite happy with their work situation. Quite frankly do they even know if that's where they want to be, who knows? I'm dealing with it. My friends are dealing with it and I beg to pose the question "Are you dealing with it?"

In your 20's you are supposed to "figure things out". While it can be a real enlightening experience it can also be a hassle and down right frustrating. I see others who don't have NEARLY the amount of experience as I do (that's right I'm cocky, and ?) who have positions quite frankly....they are not cut out for.

I have such a hard time dealing with this. Where did I miss the boat? I'm all for working from the bottom up but what about those who seem to have the uncanny luck to land a sweet gig.

For that...I hate you. That's right. I mean you.

Some people think I have a sweet gig but my un-ending pursuit to be the very best has me not satisfied and I tend to raise my expectations that much more.

I just want to find it...that niche...that "THING" that others don't got?

Oh and I wouldn't mind a few pretty cool advertising firms in Greenville, SC to find that too.

I can only hope in my move I find something I really truly love. Because if not, shit's gonna fly.

Anyone else feel jipped?

I hate getting those forwards through email. The ones about someones little boy who said a cute prayer and received a heart transplant or something about "you are my friend so please forward this on...because if you don't you are not my friend..." So you get my point.

Today I received a forward entitled "How much is a billion dollars, really?"

Read on....discuss...

This is too true to be funny.

The next time y ou hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.

A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth.

E.
A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ..
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans Interest ing number...
what does it mean?

A..
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.

B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington , D. C

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...
We had the=2 0largest middle class in the world...
and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened?
Can you spell 'politicians!'

I hope this goes around the
USA
at least a billion times
What the heck happened?????

So after all this...I felt so jipped. Jipped that our country has become a place for politicians..that's it...plain politicians. Not lawyers, not lawmakers, and NOT "public servants". Jipped that I take so much pride in being a young, educated un-married woman who votes and this is what I get in return? Jipped because I try not to even look at my weekly tax deductions from my pay check because I continue to tell myself "I'm sure it's being used wisely" Jipped because this isn't the America I want my kids to grow up in. And jipped because whichever political party anyone affiliates with, you lose anyways.

Hmph.

So it's officially official...ha!

Yup. You heard it here first folks. Jessica is moving out of Buffalo.

GASP....WTF....WHOA!

I've always been told that "Oh my gawd, how can you move out of Buffalo, you love it so much...like oh my gawd?!?!"

Yea for the record I really hate that. I think I'm a little more deep then just loving Buffalo people. But whatev.

No it does suck. I mean I really was holding out for doing some substational in Buffalo and it just didn't work that way. It may be my standards but I feel like I need to experience something more. I did the whole advocate for what Buffalo could be but it got stale. (For me that is) Some people can do it. Personally I'm drained, worn out, beat down and ready to start a brand new life. And lucky for me I am.

So the Big Mans was offered a position in South Carolina. While we were happy he found a job after 7 gagillion years of college, we were disappointed that nothing popped up in Buffalo. This UB Center for Bioinformatics and Life Sciences was supposed to DO SOMETHING. Like 3 years ago!!!! Ugh. And what about keeping young people (with a brain) here! Someone dropped the ball and it wasn't us. We stood strong, we advocated and we busted our butts to get our situation to change but it didnt.

It's not all bad. In fact I've never been happier in my life. I'm lucky enough to have an amazing man in my life. Someone who gets me and loves me for everything that I am. So picking up and moving down to the dirty south wasn't something I could pass up. Plus he makes me smile like a gitty school girl. I love him.

I'm ready to move on. Find out what it is I'm really on this earth to do. Part of me knows its not writing and certainly not PR. But I'm really focused on finding out what it is. I just want to be happy and I know thats with the Big mans, wherever in this world we may end up, we'll always love Buffalo.
